Istanbul, a modern city at the gates of Europe

travelThat was for centuries the capital of civilizations is today a modern and cosmopolitan city, which still breathes the essence everywhere Byzantine and Ottoman.

With twelve million people, Istanbul is the only city in the world that lies on two continents (Europe and Asia) and perhaps this fact makes the former Constantinople a unique city full of history.

The origin of Istanbul, like many other cities, is shrouded in mystery. Legend has it that the Greek prince Byzas (hence the name of Byzantium) consulted the oracle at Delphi where he was to found a settlement.

The temple of Apollo soothsayers told him that the best place to build a new city was just opposite the land of the blind.

Byzas left without understanding the response of the oracle, but on reaching the place where is located the European part of Istanbul saw a population that had settled on the Asian shore, unaware of the beautiful location that was on the other side of the Bosphorus.

Thought then that these people should be blind because they had not realized the benefits of the other side, equipped with a natural harbor as it was the Golden Horn decided that this was the place where they were established, as had Oracle said.
