Mount Fuji is Japan’s highest mountain (3,776 m) and is an active volcano. The Japanese love Mount Fuji, calling it Fuji-san. It’s a dream for many people to climb Mount Fuji. It is said that about 300,000 people try to climb every year and 30-40% of them are foreign visitors.
Mount Fuji is located about 60 kilometers southwest of Tokyo, Shizuoka and Yamanashi. The climbing season runs from 1 July to late August. Although people come throughout the year and the trails are always full, it is best to climb
this time of year. The climb out of season is not recommended because of bad weather.
The trails were named in 10 stations, depending on elevation. You can go to the fifth station, by car or bus, so most people start to climb Mt.
To allow your body to adjust to the altitude, it is advisable that you stay in the fifth station at least 30 minutes before climbing.
Note that the machine stations may be full of climbers, tourists and official vehicles during the climbing season. Also, if you start having symptoms of altitude sickness, including headache, nausea or vomiting, it is important not to go up.
Take a break before it gets worse or down the mountain.
Many people start climbing in the afternoon, sleep in a shelter of the mountain and continue to rise at dawn, while others go up at night with flashlights to reach the summit before sunrise.
Mount Fuji is surrounded by eight peaks. Walk around the crater that is called ohachi-meguri, takes about 90 minutes. If you have the time and strength, try going to the summit Kengamine. It is the highest point in Japan.
