MadagascarMadagascar is the fourth largest island in the world. Surrounded by golden sandy beaches and palm trees, has an interior that is resplendent in its variety, from grassy plateaus to volcanoes and opaque forests and nature reserves.

Since it split from the mainland 165 million years ago, many species are unique to the island and developed it, including 3,000 native species of butterflies.

The highlands of the country is divided geographically and culturally in climate. The coastal strip east of this chain is equipped with high mountains covered with lush forests, while the west is mainly savannah.

According to local legend, the island was first inhabited by Vazimba, a race of white pygmies. These people, if any, and were displaced by successive waves of immigrants from the Polynesian Malayo-Indonesian, from the sixth century. In the ninth century, Madagascar was a major trading power in the western Indian Ocean.

Moreover, the ancient ruins indicate an extensive Arab presence on the island at that time. Bantu tribes from the continent of Africa later settled on the west coast. The first Europeans arrived in the seventeenth century.

Poverty levels and the huge gap between rich and poor may deter some, but Madagascar is still dazzles with its rich fauna, many of which can not be found anywhere else on Earth.
