Penang Island is part of the Malaysian state of Penang and is located on the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia in the Straits of Malacca Asia. This island is the fourth largest island in Malaysia, with an area of almost 300 square kilometers occupied by a population of 700 000 inhabitants.

The island is connected to the mainland by the Penang Bridge, 13 km. long and connects the cities of Gelugor in Seberang Perai island with the mainland.

The commercial and administrative activity of the island is concentrated in the capital, Georgetown, located in the northwestern part of the island. Penang has many temples and historical sites scattered throughout the city and the north are the picturesque beaches.
